Amazon deforestation rate 22 % higher than last year
Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has announced a massive increase in the destruction of the Amazon in his first three years under the leadership of his government, according to satellite data released by the country’s Environment Agency (PRODES). Campaigners have said the government does not believe it is doing to clean up the area.
