Consumer Affairs Ministry to finalise guidelines to prevent greenwashing

Consumers are being warned that environmental claims should be made with proper disclosures, according to a draft guidelines published by the Ministry of consumer affairs and the Central consumer protection authority (Consumer Protection Authority) on Thursday, 17 January, 2018 - which aims to protect consumers against the greenwashing of the world. But Greenwashing could be banned from advertising or marketing tactics by companies, the government has announced ahead of an effort to tackle the trend of greenwashing in the UK and its neighbouring states, as part of efforts to prevent the risk of misleading adverts to make deceptive claim about their environment-related complaints. The government says it is preparing the draft guideline for the first time in more than two decades, and it has been given the go-ahead for warnings that they will need to be avoided by third-party verifications in order to stop them spreading deception and abuse of public information on the products and services it offers, in an attempt to curb the dangers of cruelty-free advertisements on social media and other ways. Officials have outlined proposals for companies to provide guidance on how the industry is taking action to combat the problem. But why is it likely to have the right to do so without proper evidence and not accurately displayed in public messages? The BBC s Geeta Pandey looks at the issue.
