Women in tech to receive Sh22 million as seed capital
A Kenyan lender has invested more than $1m (7m) to help women-led businesses in the countrys economy, according to the latest financial announcements from the BBC s Africa Business Beyond Women (Ibiz Africa - Strathmore University) and BBC Newsnight newspaper covering the business landscape and the impact of women in tech.. But One of the six cohorts of a new programme has been launched by the Bank of West Africa (WTI) in Kenya and East Africa, the Women in Tech Incubator programme (witt) has revealed that the programme is encouraging more women with tech ideas to benefit from funding to create sustainable business practices and entrepreneurship in their communities. The programme aims to encourage women to invest more money to boost sustainability, and to attract more entrepreneurs and start ups in Africa. These are the key winners, who are among those who have taken part in an initiative which has attracted millions of people to join the UK banking giant, Standard Chartered Bank (Stanchart) as it launches its Cohort 6 programme, as part of an ambitious programme that offers more investment to support women developing technology and innovation in its annual ventures for the first time in nearly five decades, with the launch of its sixth joint effort to develop innovative technology in South Africa and South African nations, but is also being given more support from women and business leaders in this year, writes Basillioh Mutahi, BBC Africa has learned.
