The International Forum on Sustainable Development and Climate Innovation, organized by the British Chamber of Commerce in Azerbaijan (BCCA) and supported by various entities, commenced in Baku, Azerbaijan. The forum aims to discuss the latest business innovations in carbon capture, energy transfer, Net Zero in construction and residential buildings, green hydrogen, and digital development. It also focuses on ESG in transport and urban transport systems, and the Smart Cities Index. Key speakers at the event include UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan Vladanka Andreeva, Deputy Chair of Climate Risk and Resilience at Howden Group Antony Hobley, Head of the BCCA John Patterson, UN Climate Change High-Level Champion for COP29 Azerbaijan Nigar Arpadarai, and others. Andreeva emphasized the need for cutting-edge financial tools to address climate challenges and protect the environment. She highlighted the importance of reducing emissions in vital economic sectors like industry, transport, and construction. Hobley pointed out that COP29 will present opportunities for successful business operations amid new climate realities. He stressed the importance of climate solutions and the need for market funding to support effective climate financing. The Export and Investment Promotion Agency (AZPROMO) Deputy Executive Director Tural Gadjili mentioned Azerbaijan s significant strides in combating climate change by hosting COP29 and actively supporting the conference. AZPROMO plans to hold a series of events, including the Baku Climate Action Week, to foster cooperation and stimulate action on climate change. The Baku Initiative on Climate Financing, Investments, and Trade Dialogue (BICFIT Dialogue) will be launched during COP29, aiming to integrate finance, investments, and trade to combat climate change and achieve sustainable development goals. The dialogue will feature high-level discussions and sessions on effective and coordinated climate strategies.
