SABECO prioritises sustainability for organisational and social benefits
Saigon Beer-Alcohol-Beverage Corporation (SABECO) emphasizes sustainability in all its operations, recognizing its role in strengthening the organization and effecting societal change. At the Việt Nam Corporate Sustainability Forum (VCSF) 2024, SABECO s Deputy General Director, Larry Lee, highlighted the company s dedication to social and environmental development in Vietnam. SABECO, a significant player in the country s beverage industry, has adopted ESG principles to drive its green transformation, focusing on various operational aspects. SABECO operates 26 breweries and numerous trading companies, with a vast network of points of sale. The company views sustainability as a cornerstone of its operations, benefiting both its business and society. However, SABECO faces challenges in adapting new technologies, minimizing costs, and managing resources for long-term planning. To overcome these challenges, SABECO has implemented several initiatives. The company has installed rooftop solar power systems across 17 factory sites, supplying nearly 23% of the electricity needed and reducing CO2 emissions by 18,000 tonnes annually. SABECO has also reduced water consumption in beer production from five litres per litre in 2018 to less than three litres in 2022. In the beverage industry, SABECO has transitioned to using biomass fuels and implemented a Clean-in-Place (CIP) wastewater treatment system. The company has also introduced thinner cans, lighter cartons, and reusable beer bottles and cans to reduce its environmental footprint. SABECO has joined Packaging Recycling Organisation Việt Nam (PRO Vietnam) to fulfill its Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and contribute to shaping effective EPR regulations for the industry.
