A new survey by Carrier Global Corporation reveals a significant shift in U.S. corporate agendas, with sustainability and building decarbonization becoming top priorities for executives. According to the survey, 83% of U.S. C-suite executives plan to increase sustainability spending in the next two years, with 57% considering sustainability a top priority and 52% focusing on decarbonization efforts. Despite the challenges associated with building decarbonization, it remains the highest priority for executives through 2025. David Gitlin, Carrier s Chairman and CEO, emphasizes the importance of investing in climate change solutions, highlighting the benefits for the environment, investors, and companies. The survey, which included responses from over 200 CEOs, CFOs, and CSOs across various industries, also revealed the impact of government incentives on sustainability plans. Even with potential changes to legislation like the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), 81% of respondents would continue or increase their sustainability investments. However, only 44% of executives expressed strong confidence in achieving global net-zero goals by 2050, indicating ongoing challenges in meeting decarbonization targets. The survey also highlighted a divergence in perspectives between CSOs and CEOs/CFOs, with CSOs focusing on specific actions like decarbonization and adapting to evolving ESG regulations, while CEOs and CFOs prioritize broader business objectives. Carrier is committed to sustainability and will host a key event during Climate Week in New York City on Sept. 24, titled Reimagining the Built Environment for a Net Zero Future. The event aims to bring together sustainability leaders, business leaders, public officials, and investors to discuss the future of climate action and building decarbonization.
