Ghana : SMEs Schooled On Incorporating Esg Principles in Operations

Telecel Ghana organized an immersive workshop for SMEs, facilitated by Mckingtorch Africa, to promote sustainable business practices during the SME Month. The event, held in Accra, featured diverse entrepreneurs and employees from various SMEs. Makafui Awuku, CEO of Mckingtorch Africa, emphasized the integration of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles for long-term business success. He discussed strategies for waste reduction, ecological sourcing, water conservation, community engagement, energy efficiency, and upcycling. The workshop also highlighted the potential for SMEs to attract investment and grants through sustainable practices. Participants engaged in hands-on activities, such as creating lip balm containers from plastic bottles and upcycling waste into art pieces. Patra Agbagbo from Abii National Savings and Loans expressed interest in implementing these practices to reduce waste and energy consumption. The workshop aimed to empower and strengthen the growth of emerging businesses by showcasing the benefits of sustainable practices. Attendees learned how to incorporate sustainability into their operations, potentially saving money and unlocking opportunities for grants and investments. The event was part of Telecel Ghana s SME Month celebration, which seeks to support and enhance the development of SMEs.
