Comfort in your lap - The Navhind Times

Aira Mirchandani, a craftswoman from Goa, has been creating handcrafted fidget quilts to aid patients suffering from Alzheimer’s and Dementia. These quilts, measuring 2x2 feet, are designed to provide sensory stimulation and improve dexterity through tactile and activity-based features. Mirchandani uses a variety of fabrics like velvet, satin, and silk, along with accessories such as buttons, laces, and zips to engage patients in simple activities like buttoning. The quilts are made with attention to color coordination and different textures, providing a sensory experience for the patients. Mirchandani has been collecting various materials and accessories to create these quilts, which can be particularly beneficial in unfamiliar or noisy environments, helping patients to block out anxiety. Mirchandani s fidget quilts have been sold to a school in Goa and Bhubaneswar, and she is showcasing them at the Craftwork exhibition. She aims to raise awareness about these therapeutic quilts in Goa and hopes to help more patients and caregivers benefit from their use.
