Acusan a Greenpeace, Amigas de la Tierra y EEAA de greenwashing al servicio del lobby ganadero-pesquero-acuícola: por qué es indefendible la ganadería extensiva - Tercera Información
The article argues that major environmental organizations such as Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth are actively engaging in greenwashing by promoting “sustainable” intensive and extensive livestock farming, fishing, and aquaculture. By framing these destructive industries as solutions to the climate crisis, these groups legitimize practices that science identifies as primary drivers of biodiversity loss and global warming. This narrative distracts from the urgent need to abandon animal agriculture in favor of plant-based diets, effectively serving the interests of powerful agribusiness lobbies rather than ecological survival. Furthermore, the text criticizes the proposed “planet-friendly diets” for relying on unproven and ecologically damaging technologies, such as biofuels derived from monocultures, while ignoring the severe health and environmental costs associated with dairy and meat consumption. These recommendations are portrayed as corporate-friendly marketing tactics that prioritize industry profitability over genuine sustainability. By omitting the critical role of reducing animal product consumption, these organizations present a sanitized image of the food industry, minimizing the systemic violence and resource depletion inherent in current agricultural models. This behavior is relevant to greenwashing because it demonstrates how NGOs can be co-opted to validate harmful industrial practices under the guise of environmental stewardship. Instead of advocating for the radical dietary shifts necessary to avert ecological collapse, these groups perpetuate disinformation that protects the status quo. The article contends that such silence on veganism constitutes a betrayal of environmental integrity, as it enables the continuation of the most impactful driver of planetary degradation, thereby turning supposed defenders of the Earth into allies of extinction.
